Greetings! And welcome to my newly improved home in the blogosphere—Picking Poesies (formerly known as Writer’s Block).
Now don’t you worry, “poesies” is spelled correctly: It means a line of verse or poetry. But, I’m getting ahead of myself a bit, wagging the dog as it were… to begin, I should tell you how I arrived here in the first place.
Why would I make changes to my blog? It all started innocently enough: After reading an article1 about goal setting, I was reimagining and prioritizing my life which, because my blog has become such an important extension of my daily and creative occupation, led to reimagining and prioritizing it as well.
- What is the purpose of my blog?
- What themes do I want and need to focus on?
- Posting on what subjects brings joy to my life and brings a smile to others as well?
- And after making those decisions, I needed to think about which categories stayed and which needed a bit of tweaking.
Looking through my notes at the conclusion of my brainstorming 2, I came to realization my blog’s name did not correspond with my keywords of creativity, inspiration, happy thoughts, fun ideas, and imaginative people and products. In fact, although I find “Writer’s Block” a humorous and ironic title, it does have some baggage or negative connotations associated with it; so there was no way around it, the bad boy had to go.
Now here was my BC: Big Conundrum aka what-on-earth-do-I-name-it-now? 3 Well, one very late night a few weeks later, I happened to be using one of my all time favorite tools—the thesaurus—and ran across “poesy.” Suddenly I had one of those giant clicks in my head and knew that I was on the right track: Almost all of my ideas had circled back to flowers, or a posy if you will, whose homophone is poesy, and each could happily be swapped in and out of imagery and text. Ahhhhhh—the lightbulb moment!
The rest, my friends, seemingly fell neatly into place. A quick switchero, otherwise known as a mere four hours of perfectionist magic, and the new blog banner was ready for its unveiling. An adjustment here, a deletion there, and maybe a few more slight changes as time goes on, but those of you who have visited in the past will see the major shift has officially been completed. The virtual dust is settling and I will soon begin working on my latest and greatest scheme4.
I’m excited to open Picking Poesies to you and am reenergized to continue posting, imagining, and sharing my happy beautiful creative life with you all. TTFN! 5

2Okay, I’ll be honest here—wild woman scribbles—that I like to think of as brilliant nutty professor observances.
3Luckily, I had already made the change to a dot-com based on my own name which is one nightmare alleviated—whew! And that name is not changing :D
4Bwahahaha…. more on that later!
5As Tigger aptly says, “Ta-ta for now!”
