Long Biography

Born and raised in Oklahoma, MARNIE LYN ADAMS is the author of the humorous short stories, A Gentlemen's Agreement and The Good, The Bad, and The Fugly, and the upcoming novels A Pretty Pickle and The Fortune Cookie Psychic. During her husband's lengthy military career, Adams lived in Spain, England, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii and across the Continental United States, creating an awareness of vibrant cultures, diverse personalities, and the commonalities between us all—details which continue to populate her writing today.

The inspiration for Adams' narratives comes from many sources: the dark snark of Barbara Claypole White, the laugh-out-loud antics of Stephanie McAfee, the humorist Dave Barry, the cinematic wonder of O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the brutal wit of Nora Ephron. Using her trademark quirkiness and whimsy, Adams seamlessly interweaves her encounters and experiences within her fiction, delving into the recurring themes of perseverance through extraordinary circumstances, the unbreakable bonds of friendship, the collapse of hubris, and the never-ending quest to be loved and understood.

Alternate Biography

Another professor, another adverse response. Le sigh! Hate may be a strong word, but it applies to her reaction to this biography—as if I had the poisoned pen plague. However, this version reflects my personality and writing style well:

Marnie Lyn Adams, who once confused the words balaclava and baklava, writes from a charming attic studio much too small for her imagination. Author of the humorous short stories, A Gentlemen's Agreement and The Good, The Bad, and The Fugly, her upcoming novels A Pretty Pickle and The Fortune Cookie Psychic capture Marnie's quintessential quirk and irreverence with a hint of family bonding (not the nauseating kind, just occasional hugging).

Besides being ironic, Marnie likes to kill people--with her pen. Check out her darker works—short short stories Die Already and Rough as well as the upcoming novella Carrion Cry—for all the gory details, scattered body parts, and other bloody stuff.

When not writing or reading or pretending to, Marnie spends her time trying to convince the Border Collie, he is not a lap dog, and the cat, she is not the boss; to date, neither campaign has been successful.

Marnie’s mastery at word creation makes her an incomparable foe in Balderdash, and she threatens to name her next pet Oligopoly because she likes the sound of the word. Her husband is afraid Marnie is serious. Most likely, she is.
